Professional dental assistants are one of the most in demand jobs in the US. In order to get a Certification Health Professionals had to study allied health courses and take an exam to be come licensed. Those who are aspiring to seek careers as dental assistants need to take biology and chemistry classes. They would also need to possess a good sense of responsibility, initiative, determination and can effectively multitask. Dental assistants are required to study a dental assisting certification program before they can work in dental clinics. In the certification program, students study radiology, assisting in dental procedures and the workings of a dental office; among other things. They are also taught the names and uses of every instrument used for dental procedures. It is important that the student learns how to take X-ray films of the teeth because if a patient at the clinic requires an X-ray, it is the responsibility of the assistant to see that it is taken care of. Laboratory dental procedures are also taught to students; they are required to complete a number of hours in practicum to sharpen the skills that he has learned in the course.

Career advancement is also possible for dental assistants. Enrolling in advanced education programs for dental assistants is a sure way to make this happen. Some dental certification bodies require dental assistants to take Continuing Education courses to be able to renew their license annually. A graduate of an advanced dental assisting course will lead a dental assistant to careers like dental assisting instructors or dental hygienists.
